How to use Reader View in Safari
Safari’s Reader View enables you to view a webpage without distractions from videos, ads, and other non-essential media. Reader View only displays the text of a webpage in an easily readable format. Note that Reader View does not work on all webpages.
In Safari 11 (the version that comes bundled with macOS High Sierra), you can enable Reader View by clicking the Reader View icon on the left side of the Address Bar. You can also select View > Reader from the menu or by press the Shift + Command + R keystroke combination.
If you want to have Safari automatically enable Reader View whenever you visit a website, you can turn on this feature from the Web tab of Safari Preferences. Or if you prefer, you can also enable Reader View only for individual websites so that whenever you visit that site, Reader View is automatically enabled.
To turn on Reader View, do this:
- Click the Reader View icon on the left corner of the Address Bar.
Or
Choose View > Reader from the menu
Or
Press the Shift + Command + R keystroke combination.
To enable automatic Reader View for all supported websites, follow these steps:
- Select Safari > Preferences from the menu.
- Click the Websites icon on top of the window to switch to the Websites tab.
- Click Reader in the left pane.
- Click the “When visiting other websites” drop-down list and choose On from the list.
To enable Reader View for specific websites, do this:
- Right-click the URL in the Address Bar on top of the Safari window.
- Click “Settings for this website”.
- Click the checkbox next to “Use Reader when available”.
- Tap the Esc key.
