Apple and Foxconn executives will meet later this month to discuss ongoing iPhone X production woes, according to a new report.

Apple operating chief Jeff Williams is planning to sit down with Foxconn chairman Terry Gou, sources say. It’s likely the subject of that meeting will be to solve manufacturing issues that are causing severe iPhone X supply constraints.

An earlier report from reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims there will be just 3 million iPhone X units available at launch. That won’t be anywhere near enough to satisfy early demand for Apple’s hottest smartphone in years.

Kuo blames manufacturing issues related to the handset’s TrueDepth camera, infrared dot projector, and antenna circuit board for the supply problems. He’s confident, however, that production will ramp up towards the end of the year.

Apple is fighting to find a fix

Apple could be hoping that there are other solutions to iron out the production kinks. Nikkei Asian Review, citing two separate sources, reports that Williams will meet with Gou later this month. While the subject of the meeting is unclear, it’s likely iPhone X will be the focus.

“Sources later said that Gou visited Sharp’s facilities in early October to help resolve related issues,” adds the report. “Sharp executives recently told the Nikkei Asian Review that the yield rate has improved gradually.”

Good luck getting iPhone X

These supply constraints mean that iPhone X will be incredibly difficult to obtain in early November. It’s likely that the vast majority of pre-order customers will have to wait for their shiny new smartphone to arrive.
