Apple looks to turn Time Bandits into TV show
Terry Gilliam’s fantasy film Time Bandits is set to be turned into a TV series by Apple.
The iPhone-maker is reportedly closing in on a deal that would give it the rights to make a TV series based on the 1981 movie, but Terry Gilliam won’t be attached as a writer for the series.
Written and directed by Terry Gilliam, Time Bandits is a follows a young boy who accidentally joins a band of time-traveling dwarves that jump from era to era looking for treasure to steal. They travel to the Napoleonic times, Middle Ages, the early 1900s, the time of Legends and the Fortress of Ultimate Darkness where they confront Evil.
Deadline’s sources report the series will be developed as a co-production between Anonymous Content, Paramount Television and Media Rights Capital. While Gilliam won’t write for the series, he will serve as an executive producer.
Sean Connery, Shelley Duvall and John Cleese starred in the original movie. Casting for the TV show hasn’t been settled yet and it sounds like Apple hasn’t officially scored the rights yet but is close to doing so.
Time Bandits is the latest series to be added to Apple’s huge roster of original TV shows in development. The company has more than a dozen shows in the works. Hollywood A-listers such as Steven Spielberg, Reese Witherspoon, Octavia Spencer, Kevin Durrant, M. Night Shyamalan, Damien Chazelle, Hailee Steinfeld and more are attached to various projects in development at Apple.
