Apple Music’s Carpool Karaoke spinoff has been nominated for an Emmy in the “Shortform Variety” category.

It will compete with digital shorts made by the likes of The Daily Show and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The awards will be part of the Creative Arts Emmys handed out on September 8 and 9. It looks like Apple’s original content efforts are headed in the right direction!

The award is one of two that James Corden has been nominated for, with the other being James Corden’s Next James Corden in the “Shortform Comedy or Drama Series.” James Corden’s Next James Corden was produced exclusively for Snapchat, another tech company venturing into original content.

Corden’s Carpool Karaoke nomination puts him up against five other nominees. These include:

Between The Scenes — The Daily Show
Carpool Karaoke: The Series
Creating Saturday Night Live
Gay of Thrones
Honest Trailers
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon — Cover Room

Apple’s history with the Emmys

Apple’s stab at a Carpool Karaoke show debuted last year. Initial reviews weren’t kind, but the series nonetheless went on to be signed for a second series with Apple. Corden has also appeared in a commercial for Apple Music.

Should the series win an Emmy, this won’t be the first time Apple has picked up such an award — although it would be the company’s first creative Emmy for a show. In the past, Apple won a technical Emmy in 2001 for its role in developing FireWire, the high-speed serial port that allows users to transfer data quickly between their Macintosh and another device, such as a digital camera.

More recently, it won an Emmy for “Most Outstanding Commercial of the Year” in 2014 for its “Misunderstood” iPhone 5s ad, which depicted a silent teenager who won’t spend time with his family at Christmas because he’s too busy with his iPhone. Then, last year, Apple was awarded a technical Emmy for its work on Siri as a TV navigation tool.

With Apple’s original TV efforts now well underway, starring a plethora of Hollywood heavy hitters, we expect to see far more awards in the company’s future.
