Apple orders sci-fi drama from Peaky Blinders writer
Apple’s original content creation machine is starting to churn at full steam, based on a new report that the iPhone-maker has inked a deal for a yet another original series.
Apple ordered a straight-to-series TV show this week that will be written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and directed by Francis Lawrence who helmed the first two movies for the The Hunger Games franchise.
The new series is currently titled See. It was created as part of the scripted drama venture between Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content.
With plans to spend $1 billion on original TV shows and films in 2018, Apple is wasting no time inking deals. Former Sony execs Jamie Erlicht & Zack Van Amburg who lead the division have already ordered four other series.
Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories will be returning to screens thanks to Apple. The company recently ordered a TV series starring Reece Witherspoon and Jennifer Anniston as well as a sci-fi drama series from Ronald Moore. There’s also a docuseries about extravagant houses called “Homes” in the works.
See is described as being an epic world-building drama set in the future. Other than that, there’s no information about the project. Apple is also reportedly considering another project from the group called Are You Sleeping. It’s a thriller drama starring Octavia Spencer, but Apple is still considering whether it wants to buy the series.
