Apple’s original TV content team is revving on all cylinders this week after ordering a second TV series this week.

Gregory David Robert’s novel “Shantaram” will be developed into an original drama series by Apple. The iPhone-maker reportedly had to beat out a number of competitive bidders on the project which has been kicking around Hollywood for a few years.

News of Apple inking the deal for comes a day after Jony Ive’s buddy J.J. Abrams signed on to executive produce a musical dramedy for Apple.

Shantaram is about an Australian bank robber and heroin addict named Lin who escaped prison and flees to India. While on the run he tries to get lost in the city of Bombay where he finds a new life in slums and underworld of India.

American Hustle writer Eric Warren Singer will write and executive produce the series. Singer also wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Top Gun sequel.

By our tally, Shantaram is the 16th new TV series project currently in development at Apple. Steven Spielberg, Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Wiig, Kevin Durrant, Ron Howard, M. Night Shamalayan and many other Hollywood A-listers are attached to a number of the shows.
