How Spike Jonze created that brilliant HomePod ad
AdWeek has shared a “making of” video, describing the behind-the-scenes creation of Apple’s brilliant short film “Welcome Home,” directed by Spike Jonze.
Not just one of the best Apple ads in ages, but one of the best adverts anywhere, the HomePod commercial stars FKA twigs as a city dweller whose drab apartment is transformed into a colorful wonderland, thanks to her HomePod.
The near seven-minute documentary about its making sheds a bit of light on the ad’s creation.
One of its most intriguing parts is watching Oscar-winning director Spike Jonze, director of great films like Being John Malkovich and Her, working through the choreography with FKA twigs. (In keeping with the Apple theme, she actually auditioned for him via FaceTime.) It also shows how the shapeshifting apartment set was achieved, courtesy of some pretty impressive hydraulics.
If you haven’t seen it, you can check out the brilliant “Welcome Home” spot below. We can’t actually embed the “making of” video, but you can watch it here. For anyone who’s interested in the creation of Apple’s best ad in years, it’s highly recommended!
