As one of Apple’s more elusive executives (when was the last time he spoke live at a keynote event?), it’s not every day that you get to hear chief design officer Jony Ive talk about what he does best.

If you live in Washington, DC, however, you’ll get the chance later this month, since Ive is speaking about the “future of design” at the Hirshorn Museum.

Best of all? The tickets are free.

Ive will be speaking alongside Rick Tetzeli, author of the Apple-endorsed biography, Becoming Steve Jobs. All advance tickets to the event have been claimed, but if you join the waitlist online or walk up the day of the event, there’s a chance you’ll get a seat.

That’s because the museum has put aside a select number of seats for walk-ups, on a first-come, first served basis. If you do plan to do this, the museum is encouraging people to arrive early since seating in the Ring Auditorium is described as “limited.”

The event is presented in partnership with Smithsonian Magazine. Ive was a 2017 honoree of the Smithsonian’s American Ingenuity Awards — a.k.a. the “Golden Globes of intellect” — which celebrates breakthroughs in the arts and sciences, education and social progress.
