Posted May 31, 2018 | Android | Cloud | Microsoft Family | Mobile | Windows

Microsoft today announced new the expansion of its Microsoft Family parental controls solution to Android. Previously, these features were only available on Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One.

“Children have access to more information, entertainment and more ways to connect than ever before, but with that comes plenty of things parents need to worry about and new ways to distract their attention,” a Microsoft representative told me. “This morning, Microsoft announced new family settings features that aim to make it easier and safer for families to interact with technology and with each other across devices and platforms.”

New Microsoft Family features for Android include:

Children’s location and app usage activity Microsoft Launcher. Microsoft’s home screen replacement for Android now provides preview versions of two new features, the ability to see your children’s last known location and time and app usage activity.

Site blocking in Microsoft Edge for Android. The ability to allow or block websites has been available in Microsoft Edge for Windows 10 since the first version. But now it’s coming to Android too: Any websites you’ve already tagged in Microsoft Family as allowed or blocked will be configured properly in Edge for Android.

Additionally, Microsoft announced MSN Kids, “a curated news site created specifically for children in the elementary and middle school age group.” It’s currently in preview.
