Star Wars characters storm Apple Stores via AR
Apple and Disney are teaming up for a new promotion next week that will see some of the most popular Star Wars characters invading retail outlets around the country powered by augmented reality.
Disney’s Star Wars promo will last for three days from September 1 – 3 and will coincide with the release of a series of new toys for the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Using augmented reality to draw fans into stores, Disney has dubbed the event “Force Friday II.” It’s a sequel to a similar promotion the company launched two years ago to celebrate the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The promotion will be available at 20,000 retail locations in 30 countries. Star Wars displays will be available on site where fans can scan codes with their smartphones to find characters like Rey, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren and more. To participate you’ll need to download the Star Wars app to your iPhone first.
Other retailers participating in the event include Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy. Merchandise and some of the AR characters will be available online in case you can’t make it to your local shop in time.
