Google is giving iPhone and iPad users the ability to stream apps and games directly to YouTube Live. The update takes advantage of Apple’s ReplayKit framework, negating the need for a middleman device to capture a feed from your device.

The change is part of a number of improvements Google today confirmed for YouTube streaming. Others include the ability to enable ultra-low latency on your feed, simpler chat moderation with the ability to automatically hold potentially inappropriate comments, and more.

But for those who like to demonstrate iOS apps, or showcase their gaming sessions on iPhone or iPad, the biggest improvement is the ability to stream directly to YouTube Live. It works with any title that is compatible with the ReplayKit framework.

Changes like this are all part of Google’s effort to compete with other live-streaming platforms like Twitch, which is incredibly popular among gamers. It also proves Google’s continued effort to support iOS with its best features and services, despite its rivalry with Android.

All of these YouTube improvements are live today, so you can start taking advantage of them immediately.
